1993-1994 REGULAR SEASON
Anxious to emerge from the shadows of Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning, Gill lobbied the Hornets for a trade. Charlotte obliged him on September 1 by sending him to the Seattle SuperSonics for Eddie Johnson, Dana Barros, and the option to switch 1994 first-round draft choices. In Seattle, however, Gill joined a deep and talented team that already included standout guards Gary Payton, Ricky Pierce, and Nate McMillan as well as All-Star forwards Shawn Kemp and Detlef Schrempf. Gill found himself in the shadows once again, but this time it was with the league's best team. Gill ranked fifth on the team in scoring (14.1 ppg) and fourth in minutes played (30.8 per game), the lowest numbers since his rookie season. Despite his reduced role, Gill fit right into the SuperSonics' pressure defense. He collected 151 steals for the season, only 3 less than his career high when he played nearly 500 more minutes. Seattle missed the league's all-time record for steals in a single campaign by 6, amassing 1,053. The Sonics won 63 games in the regular season but lost to the upstart Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the playoffs in five games. Gill scored 13.4 points per contest in the postseason.

1994-1995 REGULAR SEASON
Gill's 1994-95 season was a troubled one. The Seattle SuperSonics' starting off guard for much of the campaign, he averaged 13.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.6 steals. His scoring average ranked fourth on the team and his steals rate was 18th in the league, making him one of three Seattle guards who placed in the top 20 in that category. A starter on a squad that featured three All-Stars-Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, and Detlef Schrempf-Gill rarely had offensive plays called for him yet contributed with defense, quickness, and outside shooting. At midseason, however, Gill had a dispute with Head Coach George Karl about playing time, then missed five games from April 4 to April 13 with clinical depression. He received treatment and returned, but in the latter part of the season he came off the bench behind Nate McMillan. Gill's 17 points off the bench sparked Seattle to a Game 1 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs, but he was little used in the next three games. He averaged 18.0 minutes per contest for the series, which Seattle lost in four games.
